The National Industrial Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the payment of repatriation fee to all staff of the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited, NITEL and MTEL Nigeria who were disengaged after the privatization of the companies.
The disengaged staff had sued the Federal Government over its failure to include them in the list of staff to benefit from disengagement entitlements.
Defence Counsels, Usman Abubakar and Ayodele Babalola urged the Court to refuse the applications as the plaintiff lacks material facts to place before the Court.
In his judgement,Justice Peter Lifu ordered that twenty percent total period of service being repatriation allowance be paid to the staff who were disengaged from the service of the companies.
He also ordered the payment of two hundred thousand naira in compensation to the claimants within thirty days, failing to which an interest of ten percent per annum will accrue.
