MORE CONDOLENCE MESSAGES FOR LATE SENATOR CHUKWUMERIJE
As condolences continue to pour in for late Senator Uche Chukwumerije,a Former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and erstwhile governor of Enugu State, Okwesilieze Nwodo, has described the Senator as a patriotic Nigerian and a dogged fighter whose contributions to national development were immeasurable.
“He would be greatly missed by many including, family, the People’s Democratic Party, Ndigbo, the Senate, Abia State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Nwodo said
He urged family, friends and associates to find solace in the fact that Chukwumerijie left a chequered political career that would be treasured for a long time to come.
“His contributions to the growth of democracy in the country will be remembered for generations especially his role in halting the third term campaign. History certainly will reserve many positive pages on the big impact he made in the twelve years he spent in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Nwodo remarked
Nwodo added that as a former Information Minister, Chukwumerije made even bigger contributions to the country.
He prayed that God would give his family the strength to bear the loss.
Also,the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. George Akume,noted that the late Senator Uche Chukwumerije made useful contributions while he led his constituency in the upper house.
Akume who stated this to newsmen in Abuja noted that he received the news of the late Senator with shock and disbelief.
He said the late Senator was a very vibrant legislator who brought to bear his wealth of experience in the media, the civil societies and the government to debates in the Senate.
“As the Senate Committee Chairman on Education, he made useful contributions at the committee level and during plenary to the educational advancement of Nigeria.
“His contributions on other issues were also very valuable because he possessed all round knowledge on various issues,’’ Akume said.
He however described Chukwumerije as a “colourful Pan-Africanist’’ and prayed to God to grant him eternal rest
Chukwumerije died of lung cancer on Sunday at the Turkish Hospital in Abuja at the age of 75.
