Community Of Sant’Egidio Builds Sanitary Facilities For Leprosy Village, Minna

Impressed by it’s outstanding performance in its work of evangelism through friendship with the elderly and the poor, the Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese, Dr Martin Uzuokwu has commended the Community of Sant’Egidio over the completion of a standard lavatory and bathroom for the Leprosy Village in Kampani, Minna, Niger State.

The Clergy gave the commendation when he inaugurated the project which was carried out by  Sant’Egidio Nigeria.

 According to the clergy, the Community has over the years demonstrated its love for humanity through selfless service to those on the peripheries of Nigeria and beyond.

He therefore pledged his readiness to support the Community whenever necessary urging them to continue with their great work of serving the poor.

In a welcome remark,  the Responsible, Minna Community, Janet Bmitosayi Jagaba, disclosed that the death of two elderly friends (Mama Auta and Mama Meliha) who fell into a pit at night while trying to access the bush, brought about the urgent  completion of the project for the lepers .

She noted that the ones currently used by the community is dilapidated and unhealthy, so they defecate in nearby bushes.

Responding, a representative of the village, Mr Yohanna Musa, expressed his gratitude for the show of love by the Community of Sant’Egidio .

He noted that the show of love has further given them reasons and hope to stay alive. 

In a vote of thanks, the Country Representative, Community of Sant’Egidio Nigeria, Prince Henry Ezike, who expressed his gratitude for the warm acceptance of the Community by residents of Kampani Leprosy Village, noted that friendship with the people of the village has further made Sant’Egidio visible.

Ezike used the occasion to solicit for an office from the Bishop at the Diocese, so as to help Sant’Egidio to be  more accessible to the needy.

The Community in Minna led by a member  Janet, started in 2008 and has been living friendly with the affected  elderly people   in the lepers settlement called Kampani at the outskirt of Minna, Niger state.
