COALITION OF UNIONS TO NIMC:STOP PLANNED SACKING OF WORKERS
The coalition of unions of various organisations ,agencies and Head of Service have called on the management of the National Identity Management Commission NMIC,to jettison the proposed sacking of some workers in the commission.
To this end the unions staged a peaceful Protestant the headquarter of the commission to press home their demand.
The protesters. comprising of the Association of Seniour Civil Servants Of Nigeria, Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority(NEPZA)Head of Service and other agencies chant different songs to buttress their demands.
They carried different placards which reads thus,”STOP HARASSMENT AND INTIMIDATION BY NIGERIAN POLICE”, PREGNANCY IS FORBIDDEN IN NATIONAL IDENTITY MANAGEMENT COMMISSION”. NIMC IS A SLAVE CAMP’ AND ONYEMENAM MUST GO”.
The secretary of the Association of Seniour Civil Servants of Nigeria comrade Isaac Ojemhenke said the management has refused to follow due process in the sacking of workers of the commission.
“HE HAS MISMANAGED HUMONGOUS FUNDS THAT HAS BEEN ALLOCATED TO THIS AGENCY IN 2007,TO TRY AND PRODUCE NATIONAL ID CARDS,I DOUBT IF ANY OF US HAS WORKING NATIONAL ID CARD,BUT ANOTHER AGENCY IN THE SAME SECTOR WITH THEM HAS DONE THEIRS WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD”.He added.
A staff of the commission Regina Uwabaji claimed pregnancy was forbidden in the organisation
‘AM SAYING ALL THIS TODAY WITH SORROW AND A PAINFUL HEART,IN MY HEART,IN NIMC NOW,MARRIED WOMEN CANNOT GET PREGNANT,IF YOU GET PREGNANT IS NEITHER YOUR SALARY , YOUR WORK OR YOUR CHILD,BECAUSE ONCE YOU GET PREGNANT THE STRESS YOU PASS THROUGH WILL NEITHER MAKE YOU RESIGN ,IF YOU CANNOT MEET UP,THY WILL SEIZE YOUR SALARY”She said.
Speaking with newsmen the Director General, National Identity Management Commission, Mr Chris Onyemenam urged the leadership of labour unions to always verify facts on issues before embarking on industrial action.
‘”IT IS NOT TRUE THAT NIMC HAS PLANNED TO SACK 1000 PEOPLE ,HOWEVER ,THERE ARE 406 MEMBERS OF SENIOUR STAFF WHO FORTIFIED OFFICIAL SERVICE RECORDS AND THEREFORE HAVE BEEN PROFITING FROM THAT FRAUD,AND HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THE APPROPRIATE OFFICES FOR FURTHER ACTION.”Mr Chris Onyenenam noted.
On the allegation pregnant women were being denied to proceed on maternity leave and other related issues the DG said most affected women provided false marital documents before employments.
“IT IS NOT TRUE,THAT FEMALE STAFF ARE DISCOURAGED FROM GETTING PREGNANT,IT IS IN FACT UNTHINKABLE,I AM A CHRISTIAN AND I KNOW WHAT MY FAITH ADMONISHES ME TO DO”He said.
Mr Chris Onyemenam explained that a committee was set up in 2012 to ascertain those with fake appointments, promotion and conversion letters.
