CBN Tennis Championship: Nigeria No 1 Crashes out In Quater-Finals

The Nigeria No 1 Tennis player Imeh Joseph has been knocked out of this year’s 40th Edition of the CBN Senior Open Tennis Championship in the first quater finals played today at the Package B of the National Stadium, Abuja.

Imeh was defeated by his opponent Emmanuel Sylvester 6-2,6-2.

Meanwhile Nigeria’s No 2 Tennis player,  Babalola Abdulmumuni , who is also the  defending champion of the tournament defeated Sunday Samuel 6-2,8-3.

Still in the quater finals, Enosoregbe Clifford was able to defeat non seeded Emmanuel Paul 6-1,6-4  while Oparaji Uche defeated Bikom Albert 7-6,7-5 to make it to the semis.

In the women’s singles quater finals,  the defending champion Adejoke Sarah defeated Abu Rose 6-2,6-2,   Tenu-Micheal Mary lost to Nig, no 4 Onebamhoin Patience 6-0,6-2 while Agugbon Christie ousted Akingbade Ronke 6-4.6-4.

Samuel Blessing who is currently the Nig. no 2 woman defeated her counterpart Aiyegbusi Aanu 6-2,7-5.

Speaking to KFM Online Sports after the matches, Patience Onebamhion who made her way to the semi finals for the first time in the tournament attributed her victory to self-discipline and hard work adding that she feels so happy and fulfil.

Imeh Joseph who expressed dissatisfaction over his exit from the championship, promised to work harder in subsequence competitions.

‘Honestly what i have to say about this match is that , it happens like that sometimes. Today was just a bad day for me, its just not my day and that is how the game is, you just cant win every time . Now that am out, i will go back home and work harder for my next tournament’ he said.

The defending champion female player, Adegoke Sara expressed her determination to retain the title.

‘I Am Happy have gotten to the next round. It has not been easy. Staying focus even when am losing has been the secret to my success so far. I wish to take the title back home , this am seriously working towards’ she added.

The Semi finals is to be played tomorrow.
