Karu local government council of Nasarawa state has announced the ban on cash payment of taxes in the area.
Chairman of the council, Mr Akala Samuel made the announcement at a meeting with management staff and Revenue officers of the council in Karu.
Mr Samuel said the meeting was part of sensitisation on the commencement of electronic payment of taxes.
He explained that the move would ensure transparency and accurate data base of business owners and premises as well as smooth operation of tax administration in the local government.
The Karu local government chairman noted that the reform in tax administration of the council was also aimed at mopping up all tax payment into a single account to enable it provide infrastructure and other basic amenities to residents.
Mr Samuel called on staff of the council especially revenue officers to be one page with the technical partners to ensure success of the project.
