CAN Calls For Proactive Measure To Restore Peace In Nigeria
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on the Federal Government to be more proactive in restoring peace across the country.
The president of CAN, Dr Samson Ayokunle made the call during a service in Abuja to commemorate the United Nations world interfaith Harmony week.
The worship Service which was organised by the Universal peace federation in collaboration with Christian Association of Nigeria was aimed at encouraging religious leaders to see Jesus as their model for peace.
In a message titled Let us worship together as one family under God, the CAN president represented by the coordinating chaplain, Bishop Peter Ogunmuyiwa said no religious leader had the right to preach violence
“Every religion in the world represents peace, so it is necessary for religious leaders to ensure they preach that peace to their followers” he said.
Reading from Ephesians 4:1, the pastor of Great Nation Assembly, Rev Aaron Dauda urged Nigerians to recognize that the common values they shared as a nation outweighs the differences they have.
Earlier, The Secretary General Universal Peace Federation, Dr. Raphael Oko stressed the need to forgive one another and forget the past.
“Every Christian needs to love one another and forgive offences, it is then they can extend same love to their Muslim neighbours”.
A special peace song was rendered for the nation by the Peace Corps of Nigeria.
Highlights of the service was a prayer session for the Unity and peace of the nation.
