Lagos – Bus Conductors To Start Wearing Uniforms, Name Tags

The state government has mandated that bus conductors start wearing uniforms with name tags for easy identification.

The National President of the Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria [BCAN], Comrade Israel Adeshola, made this known in a statement. He said the rebranding of bus conductors in the state, which is in partnership with the state government, is a project that has been in the master plan of the government as a way of stemming criminal activities and also protect the lives and properties of Lagos residents.

If this comes into effect, it may reduce the number of rugged, menacing, sometimes drunk personalities who yell routes from doors of buses. Is this a good thing or not?

Another thing to envision is the neat-looking young men who will collect our bus fares. Does this mean they will automatically be well behaved or well spoke? We’ll wait and see.

One obvious advantage of this, for commuters, is the easy identification in case of negative behaviour by any of the conductors. Knowing Nigerians, we wonder how long this can be upheld.
