Bill For Establishment Of Fed. University Ogoja Passes Second Reading
A bill for an act to provide for the establishment of the federal university of technology ogoja has passed second reading at the House of Representatives.
In his lead debate the sponsor of the bill member representing ogoja yala federal constituency of cross Rivers state Jarigbe Agom said when passed into law the bill would assist in extending the infrastructure in existing universities.
According to him there was need to establish more universities given the high rate of students seeking admission into higher institutions.
He added that this would also bring about development and youth engagement in the area.
The lawmaker also stressed the need to convert some identified first generation polytechnics to universities in order to bridge the existing gap and increase the admission spaces available by absorbing the backlog of students seeking admission into universities.
The bill was referred to the house committee on tertiary education for further legislative input.
