Adequate awareness campaign to properly harness the Nation’s rich agricultural potential is has been advocated.
Professor Job Nmadu of the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State stated this at the Lecture of the tenth Nupe Day in Lapai.
He explained that although, poverty cannot be completely eliminated, it can be drastically reduced through the opportunities in the agricultural sector.
According to the University Don, government must evolve mechanisms to galvanize stakeholders to reposition the economy through agriculture.
Professor Nmadu called for the establishment of firewood plantations and small scale agribusiness ventures to make more youths self reliant.
The Niger State coordinator of the Agricultural Graduates Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Hussaini Iliyasu said about two hundred and fifty private extension workers are being engaged to fully mobilise young people to embrace farming.
Alhaji Iliyasu noted that rice alone has empowered a number of youths and attracted huge investments into the state.
Some illustrious sons and daughters of the Nupe Land at the lecture called for strategic management of the resources in the area for economic prosperity.
