20 December 2018 News

The Independent National Electoral Commission. INEC says the on going strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU if not called off may affect smooth conduct of next year’s general election.

INEC National Commissioner in charge of information and voter education Mr. Festus Okoye who stated this at the opening of one day seminar on media and gender reporting in election in Abuja explained that over one million ad-hoc staff to be recruited for the conduct of the poll include lecturers and students of federal higher institutions as well as NYSC corps members.

Mr Okoye however appealed to the Federal Government and ASUU to resolve their differences as lecturers and students must be on campuses a month before the general election.

In a remark, representative of the United Nations WOMEN Mr. Lasana Wonneh said the workshop became necessary to empower media and ensure more women participation towards peaceful and credible conduct of 2019 elections.
