As the nationwide strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ASUP continues, North Central and the North East Zonal branch of the union have called on the federal government to as a matter of urgency resolve the impasse to save the sector from further deteriorating.
The zone B coordinator of the union Comrade Abdullahi Yelwa made the call during a news briefing at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, Nasarawa State.
Comrade Yelwa stated that most states owned polytechnic lecturers are owed several months of salary arrears.

He stressed the need for government to set up an educational system capable of advancing technology to innovative and entrepreneurial level as applicable in developed countries.
Comrade Yelwa called on members of ASUP in the zone to remain calm and await further directive from the national body.
