The Armed Forces of Nigeria has attributed the increasing banditry and other criminal activities in parts of the country to foreign Sponsorship and collaborations.
The Coordinator Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters, Major General John Enenche made this known in Abuja during a media briefing on the update of the operations of the military across the country.
He explained that troops of operation LAFIYA DOLE through its subsidiary Operation LONG REACH destroyed several terrorists structures and equipment and eliminated a good number of them in Sambisa forest,Garin Maloma, Yuwe, Buka Korege, Bula Bello, Ngoske, Tongule, Bukar Meram and Washale
Also troops of SUPER CAMP17 at Cross Kauwa in Kukawa LGA and troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed at Response Area Aulari in Bama repelled terrorists attack, killing some and recovered some ammunition.
General Enenche stated that in continuation of aggressive clearance Operation in the North West, troops of operation HADARIN DAJI under Operation ACCORD, recorded significant success in Katsina and Zamfara states, killing twelve armed bandits, arrested six suspected bandits informers and rescued twenty nine kidnapped victims.
The Coordinator who noted that the military military was yet to know the sponsors of the terrorists and bandits said the arrest and confession of some foreigners in the North Central and North West gave credence to the fact that the criminals have foreign Sponsors.
He added that in the North Central troops of operations SAFE HAVEN, THUNDER STRIKE,WHIRL STROKE and GAMA AIKI conducted several ambushes and clearance Operations and in the process eliminated some bandits and kidnappers and arrested some.
On the operations in the South South region, he said the Maritime Component of operation Delta SAFE and subsidiary Operation CALM WATERS and SWIFT RESPONSE succeeded in the destruction of illegal refineries, recovery of 57,000 litres of illegally refined Automated Gas Oil AGO, 649.1 litres of stolen crude oil and Seizure of 135 bags of 50 Kg rice.
General Enenche further added that the military embarked on Civil-military activities with the distribution of palliative items to some communities in Plateau state, sensitization campaigns and provision of boreholes as well as medical outreach to IDPs.
