Albinism in humans is a congenital disorder characterized by the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes. Albinism is associated with a number of vision defects, such as photophobia, nystagmus, and amblyopia. Lack of skin pigmentation makes for more susceptibility to sunburn and skin cancers……Wikipedia
Persons with albinism remain one of the vulnerable groups and endangered in the human race today. This may not be applicable in the developed countries but it is common in Africa. Nigeria has witnessed a minimal killings as being experienced in other parts of Africa, especially in the eastern part of the continent. Persons living with albinism are to some extent neglected in the country.
It is against this backdrop that albino foundation has been championing the welfare of its members in the country. The latest is the proposed presentation of the position of the foundation at a public hearing on a bill to establish the National Agency For Albinism and Hypo-pigmentation NAAH.
The founder of the albino foundation Mr Jake Epelle in an interview with Radio Nigeria, throws more light on the proposed bill.
