The mobile court of Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB, has convicted about fifty people in Dutse Area of the FCT to community service for their failure to wear face mask.
The Magistrate of the Mobile Court, Omolola Akindele said the accused were arrested in various locations in Dutse without face masks thereby violating the protocol against the spread of COVID 19 in the Federal Capital Territory.
Magistrate Akindele therefore sentenced the accused to community service of one hour in Dutse market
All the accused persons pleaded guilty to the offence and urged the Magistrate to temper justice with mercy.
Addressing newsmen after the court sitting, the Director of Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB, Doctor Hassan Abubakar expressed concern over the attitude of some residents towards the use of face masks.
Doctor Hassan Abubakar said the Board would continue to sanction violators of COVID -19 protocols.
Doctor Abubakar stated that the exercise would be a continuous one through out the city centre of the FCT.
The AEPB Director therefore advised residents of the FCT to always comply with COVID-19 protocols to combat the spread of the virus in the Territory.
He emphasized that the fight against COVID-19 required the cooperation of all Nigerians through environmental hygeine and obedience to all regulations against the pandemic.
Doctor Abubakar added that AEPB would continue to safeguard the health of the people through the maintenance of a clean and environmental friendly capital city.
