The Adamawa state Government has pledged to support the passage of its proposed Gender And EqualL Opportunities Bill,,GEOB being championed by UN Women and Ministry of Women affairs.
A similar bill is equally being sponsored in Gombe and Plateau state under the EU funded programme” promoting women’s engagement in peace and security in Northern Nigeria”.
In a communiqué issued during a two day sensitization workshop organized for commissioners and top government functionaries of Adamawa state in Abuja.
The conference -in-session pledged to support all processes that would enhance gender mainstreaming and women inclusion in governance.
It also resolved to promote active engagement of women and youths in peace building processes as well as carry out effective sensitization at the local government level to ensure adequate mobilization and compliance at the grassroots.
The Programme Manager, Women Peace and Security for UN Women in Nigeria, Mrs Njeri Karuru expressed delight over the GEO bill and added that the bill’s strategy would further enhance the sustainability of the programme beyond 2018 in the pilot states.
Also, the commissioner, Information and Strategy of Adamawa state, Ahmad Sajob said the Executives would support the passage of the bill and all efforts aimed at enhancing gender equality in the state.
