Over two thousand children in Nasarawa State have been admitted in various medical centres across the state in the past three months for severe acute malnutrition.
Nutrition Officer, Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Hajiya Halima Yusuf announced this at a two day meeting of the state committee on Food and Nutrition in Lafia, Nasarawa State Capital.
Hajiya Yusuf said the children had to be admitted in fifteen heath care centres across the state due to absence of nutritious food in their diets.
She stated that the Agency has embarked on Community Management of Acute Malnutrition Programme across the state.
Nasarawa State Coordinator Committee on Food and Nutrition Mr Abdul Osama stressed the need for more campaigns on the importance of nutritious food.
State Chairman Committee on Food and Nutrition Mr Emmanuel Alidzi called for urgent action to check the increasing cases of Acute Malnutrition in the state.
Most of the Nutrition Focal Persons in the local government areas of the state called for budgetary provision for nutrition at the local government level.
The Nasarawa State Committee on Food and Nutrition is made up of Nutrition Focal Persons in all the thirteen local government areas of the state, the media, civil society groups, Ministries and Agencies, NGOs with the state ministry of Finance and Economic Planning coordinating.
