#2019election: UNDP Organizes 3-day Sensitization Workshop for Journalists

A three day capacity building for journalists from the North Central zone is in progress in Jos, the Plateau state capital.
The workshop is on “Conflict Sensitive Reportage” ahead of the elections.
The capacity building is organized by the United Nations Development Programme UNDP in collaboration with the Norwegian Ministry of foreign affairs.
Resident Representative of UNDP, Mr Matthew Alao said the reportage of elections is sensitive and must be handled with professionalism to avoid crisis.
The Lead facilitator, Mrs Oluwatoyin Folade explained that participants would be equipped with requisite skills in coverage of the forth coming elections in a conflict sensitive manner especially in a multi -cultural society such as Nigeria.
She pointed out that the sessions would be practical oriented and interactive.
Declaring the workshop open, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state commended the media for being objective in the coverage of election related issues so far.
Represented by his Director general on Research and Documentation, Professor John Wade, the governor advocated a more conducive environment for journalists to function effectively.
Some journalists at the forum expressed hope that the forum will enhance their skills in election reportage.
About one hundred journalists from Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau and the FCT are attending the training.
